Filipino American actress Liza Soberano served on a five-member jury that selected Andrei Kutsila’s Letters From the Silenced Country for the Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

Presented with Artemis Rising Foundation, the prize honors documentaries addressing significant social issues through journalistic and creative storytelling. La Biennale lists it as a collateral award, separate from Venice’s official competition prizes.

Soberano served alongside Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne; Artemis Rising Foundation founder Regina K. Scully; producer Geralyn White Dreyfous; and Think-Film Impact Production chief Danielle Turkov Wilson.

Kutsila’s film, also titled Listy, screened in Venice Open, Out of Competition. According to La Biennale, it portrays contemporary Belarus through people who experienced imprisonment, repression and exile. The winner receives a $10,000 prize from Artemis Rising Foundation.

Soberano has said documentaries can help audiences understand experiences beyond their own. She is also an executive producer on a planned documentary adaptation of Filipino American journalist Alex Tizon’s My Family’s Slave, with Ramona S. Diaz attached to direct.

Soberano made her U.S. feature debut in Lisa Frankenstein in 2024 and next voices Raissa in DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, opening Sept. 25.
