Host says sons Josh and Bimby remain her source of strength on former president’s 17th death anniversary
MANILA – Kris Aquino marked the 17th death anniversary of her mother, former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, with a tribute that also offered a brief update on her continuing medical treatment.
In an Aug. 1 Instagram post, Aquino recalled her mother’s final illness and said that although the family had accepted her death after witnessing her suffering, the loss remained deeply felt.
Cory Aquino died on Aug. 1, 2009, at age 76 after treatment for colon cancer. The first woman to serve as Philippine president, she led the country from 1986 to 1992 following the People Power Revolution.
Aquino said her sons observed the anniversary differently. Joshua visited Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque, where Cory Aquino is buried beside former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Bimby returned home after a guest-hosting appearance on “Eat Bulaga.”
Aquino also said she had tried another treatment for her multiple autoimmune conditions after earlier therapies had not produced the results she hoped for. She did not identify the treatment or provide a physician’s assessment.
She described severe pain and sleepless nights, saying both sons had comforted her during difficult episodes. Their support, she wrote, strengthened her resolve to continue treatment.
Aquino said her next infusion was scheduled for Aug. 5. The post did not disclose whether the infusion was completed or describe any subsequent medical result.
She closed by asking her mother to continue watching over the family and said Josh and Bimby pray daily for her recovery.
