SINGER Idina Menzel gave her Filipino fans a special treat during her concert Sunday, June 7, at the Mall of Asia Arena by singing “Let it Go” from the Disney film “Frozen,” with a few of the lines in Tagalog.
“Bumitaw, bumitaw,” Menzel sang, at one point checking to ensure she had the words right and asking the audience to sing along with her, Rappler reported. “Di ko na matatago/bumitaw, bumitaw/isarado ang pinto/kahit na anong sabihin/bumagyo pa man/lamig ay hindi alintana.”
(Let it go/let it go/can’t hold it back anymore/Let it go/let it go/turn away and slam the door/I don’t care what they’re going to say/let the storm rage on/the cold never bothered me anyway.)
Menzel, also an award-winning Broadway actress, performed songs from her characters in the musicals “Rent” and “Wicked,” movie “Frozen” and TV show “Glee.”
When she sang “Take Me or Leave Me” from the musical “Rent,” Menzel chose three members from the crowd to sing with her. Among those was Timmy Pavino, a semi-finalist from season two of “The Voice of the Philippines” who was mentored by Broadway star and Tony Award-winner Lea Salonga, Rappler reported.
“It was completely spontaneous, I guess you just have to take it at the moment, you know,” Pavino told Rappler after the end of the show.
“She just told me, she whispered in my ear that I have an amazing voice. And I just can’t believe that that came from her, a Tony award winner telling me that,” he added.
Pavino posted a photo from the concert on his Instagram account with a caption reading, “That moment when you sing with @idinamenzel… #IdinaMenzel, thank you so much for being so kind! You’re gorgeous! #amazing.”
Toward the end of the show, Menzel told the audience about how she had been wanting to visit the Philippines for the longest time.
She opened the show with “Defying Gravity” from the musical “Wicked.” (With reports from ABS-CBN News, GMA, Philippine Entertainment Portal, Rappler)
