NY premiere on Oct. 31, showing in select cinemas
GLENDALE—Dubbed as the Philippines’ National Sweetheart and considered one of the brightest stars of today, Anne Curtis is leaving her duties back home for awhile to promote her first American film—”Blood Ransom.”
On Monday, Oct. 27, the cast and crew of “Blood Ransom” held a press conference at the Noypitz Bar and Grill in Glendale, Calif. to promote the action-suspense thriller film starring Anne with Hollywood actor Alexander Dreymon.
Anne, who plays Crystal in the film, became the highlight during the media gathering, and was asked questions about her first international film and successful career in the Philippines.
The “It’s Showtime” host also shared how privileged and honored she was working with the people behind “Blood Ransom.”
“I learned a lot from them [cast and crew]. It’s way different from what I’ve been doing for the past 18 years in the Philippines. It’s like I’m starting from scratch again. As much as I could, I tried to avoid Taglish [Tagalog-English] language,” Curtis laughed as she shared her experience working with foreign celebrities.
In a Front Raw Features exclusive interview, Anne disclosed that she found out about the film through her friend Samantha Rochelle. She immediately asked permission from Viva Films (her management company in the Philippines) and ABS-CBN (her TV network for 10 years). She received approval to work with the film for only a month.
According to Anne, the film is different from the typical vampire movie, where it centers on a love story between a vampire and human being.
From working on “Blood Ransom,” she said she will be able “to take home and share with [her] other colleagues there in Manila” what she learned. Although the actress is comfortable with her showbiz career in the Philippines, Anne is still keen to do more Hollywood films “with perfect timing.”
“Blood Ransom” held its first US premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood. Noted Fil-Ams came to support the film’s cast and crew, including YouTube sensation AJ Rafael, actor Dante Basco, former teen housemate on ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother” Ivan Dorschner, UCLA basketball recruit Kobe Paras and American Idol season 11 finalist Jessica Sanchez.
In an Asian Journal exclusive interview, Albert Chang, “Blood Ransom” film producer, described Anne as a true professional with no complaints and noted how calm she remained, despite tough days film shooting.
In his brief description, Chang narrated that “Blood Ransom” revolves around Crystal, who tries to fight against the monster that she is becoming to save Jeremiah (played by Alexander Dreymon), the man that she loves.
An East Coast movie premiere will be held at the AMC Empire Times Square in New York on Friday, Oct. 31.
Written and directed by Francis De La Torre, “Blood Ransom” started showing in the Philippines on Oct. 29 and will be released in the US beginning Oct. 31 at select theaters in California, Nevada, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska and New York.
