Their selection follows Lea Salonga’s inclusion in the Class of 2026
HOLLYWOOD — Tony Award-winning performer Nicole Scherzinger and comedian Jo Koy have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, placing two entertainers with Filipino roots in the attraction’s Class of 2027.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the selections Thursday, July 23. Scherzinger and Koy were named in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category with Italian ballet dancer Roberto Bolle.
They are among 32 honorees selected across motion pictures, television, recording, radio, live performance and sports entertainment. The class also includes Pedro Pascal, Lisa Kudrow, Keke Palmer, Idris Elba, Kate Hudson, Karol G, Lil Wayne, Linkin Park and the Ramones.
The selections were made from hundreds of nominations during a May 15 committee meeting and ratified by the Hollywood Chamber’s board on July 22. Walk of Famers Ming-Na Wen and Sheila E. announced the honorees with chamber President and Chief Executive Ron Frierson at Funko Hollywood.
Ceremony dates for Scherzinger and Koy have not been announced. Selection for a Walk of Fame class does not mean a star has already been installed. Honorees generally have two years to schedule a dedication ceremony.
Scherzinger won the 2025 Tony Award for best performance by an actress in a leading role in a musical for her portrayal of Norma Desmond in the Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Blvd.”
Born in Honolulu, Scherzinger is of Filipino descent through her father. She became internationally known as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls before expanding her work into television, film and theater. The Manila International Film Festival said it submitted her Walk of Fame nomination.
Koy, whose mother is Filipina, has drawn from his Filipino American upbringing and experiences in his stand-up comedy. His career includes specials, international tours, acting and producing.
His association with MIFF includes “Nurse Unseen,” Michele Josue’s documentary on Filipino nurses in the United States, including their service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Koy served as an executive producer and joined a festival screening and discussion in 2025.
Their selections follow the chamber’s inclusion of Manila-born singer and actor Lea Salonga in its Class of 2026, also in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category. MIFF said it submitted Salonga’s nomination.
Salonga won the Tony Award for originating the role of Kim in “Miss Saigon.” Her dedication date has not been announced. Scherzinger’s and Koy’s ceremonies also will be announced separately after dates are arranged with the Hollywood Chamber.
