The supernatural thriller is set to be directed by Marie Jamora from a script by Charlene Sawit-Esguerra.
MANILA — Liza Soberano is taking on a behind-the-camera role as executive producer of “Imprint,” an upcoming supernatural thriller with Filipino women in key creative positions.
The project is set to be directed by Marie Jamora, the filmmaker behind “Ang Nawawala,” also known internationally as “What Isn’t There.” The screenplay is by Charlene Sawit-Esguerra, who is credited on “Saving Sally.”
“Imprint” centers on a Filipino American woman who uses psychic abilities to track a serial killer. The premise places the project within the genre space of horror, suspense and supernatural storytelling, a field that has drawn growing attention in international film markets.
The executive producer credit gives Soberano a role beyond acting and places her closer to the development side of screen work. Long associated with Philippine television and film, she has pursued work beyond the Philippine entertainment industry, including U.S.-based projects.
Jamora brings a cross-border résumé to the film. Born and raised in Manila, she began her career directing music videos and later wrote, produced and directed “Ang Nawawala,” which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival, according to her official biography. Her television credits include work on U.S. series such as “The Cleaning Lady,” “The Resident,” “All Rise,” “Queen Sugar” and “Fire Country.”
For Soberano, “Imprint” reflects a widening career path as more Filipino and Filipino American artists look for roles that extend beyond performance. The project brings together Filipino women in key creative roles, with Jamora directing, Sawit-Esguerra writing and Soberano attached as executive producer.
