The Sunset Park Dune Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the southern end of the park near Eastern Avenue. Organizers said pre-registration is required.
The event is being conducted in partnership with Get Outdoors Nevada, a nonprofit focused on outdoor education and conservation, which is marking its 25th year of operations. The initiative highlights ongoing efforts to preserve natural features within heavily used urban parks.
“We are calling on volunteers to help us ensure these dunes remain a natural part of our park system,” Gibson said, describing the cleanup as an opportunity for residents to contribute directly to community upkeep.
Shelly Kopinski of Get Outdoors Nevada said partnerships with local officials enable projects that combine environmental restoration with public engagement. The organization’s programs, she said, are designed to promote long-term stewardship of outdoor spaces.
The event is supported by Clark County, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and private partners including Pinkbox Doughnuts.
Opened in 1967, Sunset Regional Park spans approximately 324 acres and includes a range of recreational features, from a stocked fishing pond to walking trails that pass through desert dune formations. Officials note that these natural areas require periodic restoration to mitigate the effects of sustained public use.
Organizers said the cleanup reflects broader efforts to balance recreation with conservation across Clark County’s park system.
