THE ballroom will be decked in shining, shimmering splendor as guests are invited to come in their dazzling best to the annual fundraiser of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater LA (FACCGLA) on Sunday, January 12.
The “Shining Shimmering Splendid Gala” will be held at the Hilton Woodland Hills, beginning at 6 p.m.
FACCGLA always strives to make its events enjoyable while getting some business done. This 2020 will herald in a new president and board members with well-timed ceremonies interspersed with entertainment like dancing, raffles and live performances.
This year’s gala will open with live music from Jazz pianist Tateng Katindig, and songs for “auction” from LA Opera’s Sal Malaki and vocalist Annie Nepomuceno, who also happens to be the new president of FACCGLA. Nepomuceno has been performing in and producing Filipino American concerts at the Ford Theatres, the Aratani Theatre, the Alex Theatre and the Plaza Del Sol at CSUN among others. She has a Holiday EP album available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
Tateng Katindig is a renowned jazz pianist from the famed Katindig family of musicians. His father is famed jazz saxophonist Eddie Katindig, and composer/pianist Boy Katindig is his uncle. Tateng has been playing in mainstream jazz ensembles in concerts and festivals both locally and internationally. He has released several albums in the U.S. and is a popular music director, having led the shows with David Pomeranz, Joey Albert, and Ogie Alcasid, among others.
Sal Malaki has done over 100 performances at the Los Angeles Opera in various roles. He performs recitals all over the world, where he gets to include his Filipino repertoire. This 2019 he performed Philippine National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab’s music, accompanied by the Maestro himself. Guests at the gala can bid on whether he will sing the famous tenor aria “Nessun Dorma,” or “O Sole Mio.”
Also to be given on January 12 are Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, given to those who have made a positive representation of Filipino Americans, inspirational progress and visibility. They are nominated and evaluated by the Board of Directors of FACCGLA.
Dinner will be served during the Board installation, presided over by Philippine Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz. and outgoing President Ellen Samson. Prizes will be raffled off before the dance floor opens.
