Eduksine USA Brings Filipino Stories to a Global Audience with Free Indie Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, CA – Filipino independent cinema is making waves worldwide through Eduksine USA’s Online Filipino Film Festival, a free streaming event running until May 2025. This initiative, in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, aims to showcase Filipino storytelling and culture while providing a global stage for independent filmmakers.

A Vision for Global Filipino Cinema

At the forefront of this movement is Karen Jane Salutan-Krukover, founder of Eduksine USA, whose passion for education and film has driven her to bridge the gap between Filipino storytellers and international audiences.

Launched in 2016, Eduksine initially focused on bringing socially relevant Filipino films to underserved communities in remote areas of Kalinga and Aurora. Recognizing the need for a wider platform, Salutan-Krukover expanded Eduksine into the U.S., officially registering Eduksine USA Corporation in November 2024, with headquarters on Wall Street, New York City.

With support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippines, Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) Los Angeles, PTIC Silicon Valley, and San Diego Filipino Cinema, Eduksine USA is bringing independent Filipino films to global audiences while empowering Filipino filmmakers.

Beyond film distribution, Eduksine USA is developing original productions, including the upcoming documentary “Ang Mambabatok,” which explores the ancient tattooing traditions of Northern Luzon. The company has also joined the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) initiative, reinforcing its commitment to diversity and gender inclusivity in the film industry.

A Curated Selection of Must-Watch Films

The Online Filipino Film Festival features 10 critically acclaimed films, spanning genres from drama to sci-fi, showcasing Filipino resilience, heritage, and creativity:

• Ang Guro Kong ’Di Marunong Magbasa – A community struggles with conflict and education.

Bringing Filipino Cinema to the World

Despite critical recognition at film festivals, many Filipino indie films lack mainstream distribution. Eduksine USA is breaking barriers by making these films widely accessible, ensuring that the richness of Filipino storytelling reaches a global audience.

“Filipino films offer compelling, untold stories that deserve international recognition,” says Salutan-Krukover. “Eduksine USA is here to elevate these voices and make Filipino cinema accessible to all.”
