DITAS Delossantos Yamane, one of several candidates vying for two open slots in the city council of National City, will bank on her experience, business knowledge and leadership skills to help the city recover from the ill effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and craft a plan that realistically deals with the challenges of future growth given limited funding sources in these challenging times.
A long-time resident of National City, Yamane is no stranger to the National City political scene. Aside from serving on multiple commissions in the city, Yamane made a run for mayor in 2018. She is currently a member of the city’s Planning Commission.
Yamane is a small business owner, a real estate broker, and is also president and CEO of the Mabuhay Foundation.
The founding member of the United Pangasinan International has participated in numerous efforts to help underserved communities in National City through activities such as School Supplies Give-Away, Bike Give-Away, Backpack Give-away, Toys for the Holiday and Thanksgiving Turkey Give-Away. Yamane has also participated in helping give out scholarship awards for deserving high school students, providing free notary services to seniors and has volunteered for the VITA Program, which is free tax preparation for the low-income community.
One of the cornerstones of her community involvement is through mentoring and supporting the youth whom she says she is always ready to help.
According to Yamane, she will “bring leadership focused on understanding the heartbeat of our businesses and neighborhoods.”
Among the main issues that she will work on if she gets elected to the city council are jobs, housing and public safety.
“I will focus on growing our local economy, creating jobs and ensuring opportunity to all our residents. I will work to encourage building more housing by working with builders and investors, and revisiting permits and streamlined processes. I will dedicate to ensuring our first responders have the resources and the tools needed to keep our residents and communities safe,” Yamane told the Asian Journal via email.
Yamane says her vast experience in business, civic engagement and volunteerism make her a good fit to the city council.
“I am running to bring a quality of leadership to improve the community we live in. Our city desperately needs a policy maker with business knowledge and experience,” she said.
“With years of experience in community engagement, financial analysis, business management and real estate business, my qualifications are above all the other candidates.”
A recipient of many community service awards and citations for her civic-oriented engagements, Yamane hopes that voters, including those from the Filipino American community, will see how she has advocated for the city throughout her career and volunteer activities.
“I love National City and I will work hard to make sure to provide the services and respect our community deserves,” she said, while adding that she has received a very positive response from Fil-Ams who have seen her efforts in promoting Filipino language and culture.
Ditas Delossantos Yamane is endorsed by councilmember Ron Morrison, who is a former National City mayor. A partial list of endorsements for her city council bid include Congressman Juan Vargas, San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox, Honorary Consul Audie de Castro of the Philippine Consulate in San Diego, Run Women Run, San Diego Lincoln Club, Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of San Diego County and the Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR).
