THE Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, June 2, reported 12 new cases of the novel coronavirus among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of infected individuals to 5,230.
It also recorded five new deaths from the Middle East, raising the death toll to 347.
“With only a few countries across three major geographical regions reporting on the status of our people abroad today, the DFA confirms 12 new cases bringing the total number of Filipinos afflicted by COVID-19 at 5,230,” the agency said.
“The total number of Filipinos who have recovered from the disease is 2,166 with new recoveries in Asia and the Pacific and Middle East. While [the] total number of fatalities is at 347 with 5 new deaths recorded in [the] Middle East as well,” it added.
Overall by region, Europe — which comprises 16 countries with PH Foreign Service coverage — has recorded 821 Filipino cases, including 472 undergoing treatment, 259 recoveries and 90 deaths.
The Middle East and Africa, covering 12 countries, has reported 3,258 cases; of which, 1,835 are undergoing treatment, 105 deaths and 1,318 recoveries.
The Asia Pacific region, which spans across 12 countries, has 495 cases, with 134 under treatment, 359 recoveries, and two deaths.
The Americas — covering six countries like the United States — have 656 reported cases, with 276 undergoing treatment, 230 recoveries, and 150 deaths.
“Based on the latest figures, [the] Middle East and Europe still have the highest number of recorded Filipinos infected with COVID-19,” the DFA noted.
“Asia and the Pacific has [the] fewest number of cases and highest in recoveries followed by Europe, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities followed by [the] Middle East,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Philippines has recorded 18,997 COVID-19 cases, with 966 fatalities and 4,063 recoveries.
