How you respond to debt problems will determine outcome

IF you’re like most people, making money and thinking about money takes up a significant amount of your time. In the world that we live in, money is an important issue in our lives.  Having enough of it gives us peace of mind knowing that we can provide for our families.  On the other hand, when we don’t have enough of it, we feel restricted about our choices. Sometimes, we even feel guilty and question whether we are doing enough. There is no doubt that there are a myriad of emotional issues involved in dealing with money because it affects all areas of our lives.
This is the reason why being in debt can have devastating emotional effects on people. When you are doing your best to handle all your financial obligations but it’s still “not good enough”, you may feel like a failure although that’s often not the case. A lot of debt problems can be caused by events beyond your control (example: the real estate market crash in recent years) so it is not always necessarily your fault.
Other people respond with denial. Instead of acknowledging the reality of their situation and doing something about it, they do nothing until their situation gets worse.  These people find it too difficult to face the facts so they put off dealing with their debt problems until something bad like a lawsuit, wage garnishment or foreclosure happens.   They feel that confronting their problems is too painful and too stressful so they sweep things under the rug and pretend that their problems do not exist.
Listen to me!  You don’t need to wait until your debt problems have taken over your life before doing something about them.  There is a solution to every debt problem. You may not see it now because you have not taken the time to find out what your options are. I’m not going to say it will necessarily be easy.  Sacrifices may have to be made to get you back on track but it is possible.  So stop blaming yourself, others, the government, the economy or anyone for where you are.  Because the truth is that regardless of what caused you to be where you are right now, ONLY YOU can do something about it and change your life for the better.
