Actress says finding the right partner now matters more than her former hope of marrying at 25

MANILA — Actress Julia Barretto says she no longer has a preferred age for marriage, setting aside an earlier hope of marrying at 25.

The 29-year-old discussed the change during an appearance on “The B Side,” a Cinema One interview program hosted by Bianca Gonzalez. In the show’s “Burning Questions” segment, Gonzalez revisited a vlog interview with photographer BJ Pascual in which Barretto had identified 25 as her ideal age to marry.

“I just wanna be with the right person,” Barretto said. She explained that choosing the right partner had become more important than adhering to an earlier timetable.

Barretto said she was grateful the marriage she once envisioned had not happened at 25. “I wouldn’t have been prepared for such a thing,” she said.

The conversation also turned to her sisters, Dani and Claudia. Barretto said both had married at 25 and joked that perhaps she had been envisioning early marriage for them rather than herself. She added that she would be comfortable marrying in her 40s or 50s if that meant spending her life with the right person.

Her remarks follow the public confirmation of her separation from actor Gerald Anderson in September 2025. Their respective talent agencies, Viva Artists Agency and Star Magic, described the decision as mutual. Viva also said speculation about the reasons for the breakup was unfounded. Neither agency disclosed a cause.

Barretto is appearing opposite Joshua Garcia in “Always Yours, Never Mine,” a romantic drama directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana. The film follows Apollo, played by Garcia, and Luna, played by Barretto, through encounters and decisions spanning three decades.

The Star Cinema production opened in Philippine theaters on September 30. It had earned more than 100 million pesos at the box office as of October 11, according to an October 12 announcement by ABS-CBN.

International screenings are scheduled to begin October 22 in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Australia and New Zealand, followed by the United States, Canada and Guam on October 23.
