Agency says another person was driving the vehicle, which remains registered in actor’s name, as investigators examine circumstances behind plate mismatch

MANILA — Actor Derek Ramsay said he will cooperate with the Land Transportation Office as it investigates a Porsche 918 Spyder registered in his name that was found displaying a plate number different from the one assigned to the vehicle in LTO records.

The LTO said Ramsay was not driving the Porsche when it was flagged. A businessman was behind the wheel, according to the agency’s initial findings. Investigators are also examining whether Ramsay had sold the vehicle before the incident, although the transfer of ownership had not been completed in LTO records.

Because Ramsay remains the registered owner, he and the driver were directed to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on Aug. 24. The agency said Ramsay may present a deed of sale or other documents establishing whether ownership had already changed hands.

LTO verification showed that the alphanumeric combination displayed on the Porsche did not match its officially assigned plate number. The vehicle was placed under alarm status and ordered impounded while the inquiry proceeds.

Ramsay said in an Instagram Story on Aug. 16 that he does not drive vehicles with fake plates and that his vehicles have proper plates. He said he would cooperate and appear when requested.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said investigators will determine the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s ownership, use and plate. The agency has not announced a final finding holding Ramsay responsible for the plate discrepancy.
