Aircraft maintenance complex is targeted to begin operations in 2028
CLARK, Pampanga — Lufthansa Technik Philippines broke ground Thursday, Aug. 6, on a widebody aircraft maintenance complex at Clark International Airport, advancing an expansion expected to create about 1,200 skilled jobs over the coming years.
The company described the project as a three-digit-million-dollar investment but did not disclose an updated exact amount. The Philippine government had valued the expansion at $150 million, or about P8 billion, when the plan was announced in 2024.
The facility will occupy roughly 157,000 square meters and is designed to accommodate as many as nine widebody aircraft bays. Initial operations are targeted for 2028, subject to construction, regulatory approvals and other project requirements.
The employment projection covers technical work in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul. Government officials said the project could create opportunities for engineers, technicians and other aviation professionals while supporting skills development and technology transfer.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines President and CEO Holger Beck said about 500 people from the Clark area had already received training ahead of the expansion. The company also takes about 400 students annually through an 18-month aircraft-maintenance training program.
The complex will include an aircraft paint shop and nondestructive-testing workshops. It is being developed to service selected Airbus and Boeing widebody aircraft, including planned capabilities for the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.
Clark will become the company’s second major base-maintenance location in the Philippines, complementing its operation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Lufthansa Technik Philippines is a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MacroAsia Corp.
