Chicago appearance falls between the Filipino pop group’s Grammy Museum program and Lollapalooza performance
CHICAGO — Filipino pop group SB19 is scheduled to participate in the ceremonial first pitch before the Chicago White Sox host the New York Yankees on July 29 at Rate Field.
The Major League Baseball game is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. Central time.
SB19 billed the appearance as the first time a Filipino group would throw a ceremonial first pitch at an MLB game.
The Chicago engagement is part of three consecutive days of appearances in Los Angeles and Chicago for SB19, composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin.
On July 28, the group is scheduled to appear at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles for a sold-out edition of Global Spin Live. The museum program is scheduled to include a discussion of SB19’s career and music followed by a performance.
SB19 is then set to perform July 30 at Lollapalooza, which runs through Aug. 2 at Grant Park in Chicago. Festival organizers list July 30 as the opening day of the four-day event.
The White Sox appearance places the group in an American sports setting between two music-related engagements. It is a ceremonial role rather than a scheduled musical performance at the ballpark.
Several Filipino public figures have previously thrown ceremonial first pitches at MLB games, including boxer Manny Pacquiao, actress Liza Soberano and comedian Jo Koy.
The group released Wakas at Simula in March. The album includes “Visa,” “Toyfriend” and “Emoji.”
The baseball ceremony adds another type of U.S. public appearance to SB19’s schedule as the group moves between a museum program, a major-league ballpark and one of the country’s largest music festivals.
