The clarification comes after earlier remarks by the senator suggesting he could leave public life if the country’s system of government remains unchanged.

MANILA — Senator Robin Padilla’s political future remains open-ended after his wife, television host Mariel Padilla, said he is not yet retiring from politics.

Her remarks clarified earlier comments by Padilla that had raised questions about whether the actor-turned-lawmaker intended to leave public office after his Senate term ends in 2028.

Padilla, who was elected to the Senate in 2022, has previously said he was considering retiring abroad and stepping away from politics if the country’s system of government does not change by the end of his term. The statement prompted speculation over whether he planned to seek another elective post or exit public life.

Mariel’s clarification stopped short of announcing any future campaign. Instead, it placed Padilla’s plans in a more measured frame: no formal 2028 decision has been declared, but retirement from politics is not settled.

Padilla, officially listed in the Senate as Robinhood C. Padilla, has focused much of his legislative work on constitutional change, federalism, cultural communities, Muslim affairs and public information. Before entering national politics, he built a decades-long career in film and television and became one of the Philippines’ most prominent action stars.

For now, Padilla has not announced his next political move, and any decision about his post-Senate future remains pending.
