MANILA — Filipina singer Kristel Herrera has ended her run on “Britain’s Got Talent” after competing in the fourth live semifinal of the British talent program, stopping short of the final but gaining a wider platform outside the Philippines.
Herrera first drew attention on the show with her audition performance of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You,” a demanding ballad from “The Bodyguard” soundtrack. She later returned for the live semifinal round, where she performed Sienna Spiro’s “Die On This Hill,” shifting from a classic vocal showcase to a more contemporary pop selection.
In the fourth live semifinal, Herrera competed against a mixed field of singers, musicians, dancers and variety acts, including Epic Sax Guy, Glantaf Boys Choir, Rafferty Coope, Ren DMC, Sonny Green, Wei Yamin and Welsch Master Team. She did not advance to the final. The public-vote slot went to young magician Rafferty Coope, while spoken-word performer Sonny Green also moved forward after receiving a Golden Buzzer during the live show.
For Herrera, the result ended a competitive run that had already placed her voice before a large international audience. The format of a talent show gives singers only a few minutes to make an impression, often through songs already closely associated with major vocalists. By choosing Houston for her audition, Herrera entered a high-risk lane that required technical control, restraint and emotional scale.
Her semifinal performance offered a different test: whether the early impact of a strong audition could be sustained in a live round, against performers from several disciplines competing for limited final slots.
The semifinal result closed one chapter, not the larger pursuit. Herrera leaves “Britain’s Got Talent” with the same practical challenge faced by many artists after a televised breakthrough: how to convert a few minutes of visibility into a career that can last beyond the show.
