The actor says he has no current plans to seek public office as he returns to primetime and continues his work with AKTOR PH

MANILA — Dingdong Dantes has again moved to quiet speculation about a possible political run, saying his present focus remains on acting and on work within the entertainment industry.

Asked in a recent television interview whether he had plans to seek public office, Dantes said his focus was clear: “dito sa industriyang ito, dito sa pagiging aktor.” Asked directly if he had political plans, he answered, “Wala po.” The remarks were made on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” according to published accounts.

The statement places Dantes, one of GMA Network’s most prominent leading men, firmly within the entertainment sphere at a time when celebrity names are often drawn into political speculation. His latest answer did not close the door on public service as a broader idea, but it did reject the suggestion that he is now preparing for elective office.

Dantes is currently leading GMA’s action-drama series “The Master Cutter,” which premiered on Netflix on May 8, ahead of its scheduled local airing on GMA on May 11. The series, produced by GMA Entertainment Group, casts him as Anthony “Atoy” Padua, a former Scout Ranger who takes on a quieter life as a tailor while secretly working as a tracker-for-hire.

GMA described the project as Dantes’ return to a leading primetime role, with the network listing the show’s cast and creative team and placing the series in its GMA Prime lineup.

Beyond acting, Dantes has been identified with industry organizing through AKTOR PH, or the League of Filipino Actors. He serves as the group’s chairman, according to accounts of the organization’s work. AKTOR was launched in May 2020, during the pandemic, after actors began meeting to discuss concerns affecting performers, including workplace conditions, welfare and professional representation.

That work gives Dantes a public-service platform outside electoral politics. In recent remarks, he framed service as something that may be pursued in different ways, including through one’s profession and community. The distinction is significant: while Dantes has been drawn into political conversations before, his latest statement puts the emphasis on craft, industry leadership and the responsibilities of working within Philippine entertainment.
