THE Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco and the Hep B Free San Francisco Bay
Area (SF Hep B Free) invite everyone to a Hepatitis B Education and Screening Community
Event on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine
Center, 447 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California 94108 (behind Union Square).
This community event, which is in line with the observance this May of Hepatitis Awareness
Month in the United States, aims to bring awareness to the adverse effects of Hepatitis B and
highlights the importance of preventive screening.
The free hepatitis B test would show whether or not a person is hepatitis B-positive, and
whether or not one has the immune response to the disease. An individual’s privacy is protected
during the screening.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in every 12 Asian and
Pacific Americans have chronic hepatitis B, which causes liver cancer. While Asian Americans
constitute only four percent of the population in the United States, they comprise over half of the
one to two million people in the country who are chronically infected with hepatitis B.
