Congen Ferrer Lauds West Bay Pilipino multi-service center on its new community center in San Francisco

Consul General Neil Ferrer joined San Francisco Mayor London Breed, California State Senator Scott Wiener, and other government officials and community leaders in the 55th anniversary celebration of the West Bay Pilipino Multi-Service Center, and the inauguration of its new two-storey, 6,200-square-foot permanent community center at the SOMA Pilipinas District in San Francisco on September 20, 2023. ConGen Ferrer praised the West Bay Center, under the leadership of executive director Carla Laurel and Board of Directors president Genevieve Jopanda, for its positive influence in the community and in the city.

He extended assistance in supporting the needs of the center in serving the mothers, children and teens, and seniors under its care, including assistance-to-nationals services and cultural promotion activities. Established in 1968, the West Bay Center is the oldest Filipino nonprofit corporation in Northern California. It serves mostly low income and newly-arrived Filipino immigrants through its programs such as academic enrichment and mentorship, college preparation, “kuya/ate” mentorship, case management, and senior wellness workshops.
