FILIPINA tennis ace Alex Eala is now the second best junior player in the world after dominating the junior grade A tournament in Milan, Italy last week.
As per the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings released Tuesday, July 20, the 16-year-old tennis star from the Philippines garnered 2,786.25 points, overtaking France’s Elsa Jacquemot who dropped to No. 3 with 2,404.25 points.
Andorra’s Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva remained at the top with 2,991.75 points.
Eala returned to the No. 2 spot after taking home the singles and doubles titles in the JA Trofeo Bonfiglio tournament over the weekend.
Previously, the Filipina teen reached world No. 2 in 2020, before ending the year at world No. 3.
Aside from her twin titles in Milan, Eala also won the 2021 French Open girls doubles crown with her Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva in June.
Earlier this month, Eala entered the Wimbledon juniors championships, but exited in the second round of both the singles and doubles events.
She is expected to compete in the prestigious U.S. Open juniors tournament in August this year.
In the women’s pro circuit, Eala is currently at No. 634 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings.
