Art Exhibition on View February 28 – March 31, 2026

San Francisco, CA — The I-Hotel Manilatown Center presents Inday: Manilatown Celebrates Women’s History Month, a group exhibition honoring the artistic voices, cultural contributions, and lived experiences of American Filipina artists. On view from February 28 through March 31, 2026, the exhibition highlights work that reflects intergenerational stories of migration, identity, perseverance, and cultural pride.

An opening celebration will take place on Saturday, February 28, with doors opening at 5PM and a program beginning at 5:30PM, featuring special performances by the Manilatown Jazz Ensemble and the Manilatown Ancestral Ensemble.

Held in recognition of Women’s History Month, Inday* amplifies the global call to celebrate women’s achievements while reflecting on the unique contributions of American Filipina artists to cultural identity, creative expression, and social justice. The exhibition also affirms the I-Hotel Manilatown Center as a vital space for elevating American Filipina creativity and connecting contemporary artistic practices to Manilatown’s enduring legacy of community empowerment and cultural advocacy.

“Foremost, this exhibition seeks to spotlight the work of American-Filipina women artists who continue to push the boundaries of their respective art forms,” said Jeanette Gandionco Lazam, Co-Curator. “Together, their works capture the breadth and spirit of American Filipina artistry—tracing connections from our ancestral homeland to contemporary expressions across acrylic and oil painting, watercolor, pastel, quilting, weaving, ceramics, photography, and performance art. Within the history of art exhibitions in the San Francisco Bay Area, there has never been an undertaking quite like this by a community-based organization. This curated exhibition is dedicated to the work of American Filipina women artists. It is my sincere hope that every visitor leaves this exhibition feeling enriched. Knowing their time here was meaningful, inspiring, and well spent.”

“This exhibition is both a celebration and a statement,” said Caroline Cabading, Executive Director of the Manilatown Heritage Foundation. “By centering the work of American Filipina artists, Inday honors the creative leadership of women who have shaped our communities across generations. Their work reflects resilience, identity, and cultural pride, while reinforcing the International Hotel Manilatown Center’s role as a home for storytelling, artistic expression, and social justice rooted in our collective history.”

Through diverse media—including painting, textile arts, ceramics, mixed media, and performance—Inday invites audiences to experience the evolving narratives of American Filipina identity and the power of art as a tool for visibility, connection, and cultural continuity.

*Inday in Visayan (Cebuano/Ilonggo) dialects is a common, affectionate term of endearment for a woman, older girl, or female child.
