Muay Thai is rapidly growing around the world, with increased exposure and celebrity participants helping to raise the profile.

Ryan Gosling and Kevin James are both known to enjoy Muay Thai which helps to bring the discipline to a wider audience. It is also being considered as an Olympic sport of the future, which will further impress it upon the American public.

Whilst there are plenty of places here in the US where one can train for Muay Thai competition, it is widely recommended that your travel to the home of the sport, Thailand. The Muay Thai camps there are amongst the very the best in the world, boasting great coaches who have grown up with it as their national sport.

Muay Thai is massive in Thailand, for several reasons. An Expatbets guide to Thai sports betting notes that while horse racing and the lottery are the only fully legal forms of waging in Thailand, Muay Thai can, in fact, be wagered on in some establishments, which has helped drive its popularity. In fact, it is hard to find a corner of this beautiful country that does not have several gyms and a boxing arena, even Koh Samui has a venue travelers can visit.

If you are serious about your Muay Thai journey and want to learn from the absolute best, then you must travel to Thailand and train in one of these gyms.

Sitjemam Muay Thai – Pai

If you are looking for a budget Muay Thai experience then this is by far the best bet, with prices at around $145 USD for a week’s stay, which includes food, accommodation, and training gear. Best value does not mean worst experience though and the coaches here are top quality.

It is also in a beautiful area of the country, the peaceful Pai in North Vietnam. If you are hoping to train and take in wonderful scenery and culture too, this is the place for you.

Attachai Muay Thai gym – Bangkok

If you are planning to be in the capital city, then you will find a large selection of gyms and training camps, but we think the Attachai Muay Thai gym in the middle of Bangkok. Whilst it might be in the center of the city, it is close to green space and a lake, which makes it a serene place to practice the art.

It is owned by Lumpinee champion Attachai Fairtex, who is also known as The Left Hand from God. The gym offers a range of different packages to suit most needs and the chance to train with a world-renowned fighter. It is a very well-equipped location and boasts a host of great coaches making it one of the top destinations for Muay Thai hopefuls in Bangkok.

Punch It Muay Thai Gym – Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a popular tourist destination, so if you are hoping to combine your training with a holiday, this is the place for you. They offer weekly and monthly stays, twice daily sessions, and airport pick up too.

This is a good place for beginners and intermediates, rather than someone already well-versed in basic martial arts. It is perhaps the sort of location a backpacker might choose, someone wanting to understand Muay Thai but not necessarily indulge in competition.

KYN Muay Thai gym – Phuket

The gym is located on an island just off Phuket called Koh Yao Noi, but is close enough to the tourist trap to be recommended to travellers looking at the area as a possible training location. It is one of the most isolated locations to train in Thailand, allowing for complete focus.

Like the Attachai in Bangkok, it is run by a boxing champion too, Hlukhin. The gym offers group training packages and is highly regarded for its beachside location, just a short boat ride from Phuket Island.

  1. Awesome article,

Thank you very much for your brilliant content. Long time i was searching for some good gyms and recommendations. After I find your website, my decision was clear. I been at Muay Thai Punch It Gym on Koh Samui for 3 weeks. Great, experienced teachers, clean gym and equipment, a place to shower with bathroom, and close to all things around. I booked through https://kohsamui.tours which gave me a special price for the 3 weeks training time. Awesome deal and very well company. I really enjoyed my stay on Koh Samui and i am looking forward to been back as soon as possible. So long, i wish everybody a lot of energy and stay healthy.

    Best regards
    Tom P.
