Los Angeles, California: You Eat Now! is collaborating with Makossa Cookout and The POT Bar to kickoff this summer’s party season on Saturday, June 18 at 3:30pm at The Line Hotel. Last summer, Makossa brought their legendary soiree of great food, good music, cold drinks, and happy people to the “backyard boogie” setting of Los Angeles. This year, they’ve invited You Eat Now! to bring Filipino food to the party.

“Amazing! Was my first time eating Filipino [food] and it won’t be my last!” Many enthusiastic responses were overheard from the large turnout at You Eat Now’s first two events. Officially debuting with a popup brunch on February 28th at The Point in Culver City with over 300 attendees, You Eat Now! continued to grow with a second popup brunch on June 5th at Mumford Brewing in Downtown LA with over 400 attendees. With two successful brunches under their belt, this summer kickoff party collaboration will be You Eat Now’s third event this year. The menu will include grilled chicken inasal skewers, grilled liempo skewers (pork belly), purple potato salad, and atchara slaw (pickled green papaya, carrots, and cabbage) by John Castro and Lawrence Fama, plus bibingka bruleé (rice flour cake) for dessert by AC Boral.
Two friends in the indie film world, AJ Calomay (producer/editor of “Lumpia”) and John Manal Castro (director/writer of “Diary of a Gangsta Sucka”, writer of “The Debut”), developed a shared passion for bringing Filipino American stories to the big screen. As Castro’s love for cooking Filipino food evolved over the years, he started serving casual arroz caldo brunches for friends at Calomay’s home in Los Angeles; and You Eat Now! was born. Fellow collaborators and friends in the You Eat Now! kitchen include: Lawrence Fama (former owner/chef of Tapa Boy truck), AC Boral (founder/chef of Rise & Shine brunch), Cristina Stuart (founder/chef of Crisp Provisions and former Sous Chef at Republique) and Justin Foronda (founder/chef of Benaddictz brunch).
With a shared passion and mission to bring Filipino food to the masses, You Eat Now! is a growing organization in Los Angeles. For more information and/or to collaborate on future projects, please contact A.J. Calomay at [email protected].
