Filipino artists get nominated at Asian TV Awards 2013, Stars rally to help typhoon victims

WITH any kind of tragedy that comes to the Philippines, artists will always find ways to help—either by donating cash and in kind, volunteering or both—their fellow Filipinos.

Just last week, Leyte and other provinces was devastated by the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda.  At present, the government, international aid and other non-profit agencies are trying to reach out and help as many people as they can.

In the entertainment industry, fundraising efforts and awareness has been ramped up.  Some even have families and are from the area.

Actress Anne Curtis raised money via a garage sale named “sANNEday garage sale” held last Nov. 10 at a mall in Taguig.  She sold all her used dresses, blazers, shorts and gowns; and has asked for contributions from her boyfriend Erwan Heussaff.  She was able to raise P370,000 from the sale and gave the proceeds to World Vision Philippines.

Concert King Martin Nievera has offered his talent fees to benefit concerts, but is hoping that the money will go to the right people.

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez auctioned her designer bags, shoes, accessories and gowns, while her husband, singer-composer Ogie Alcasid gave his watches to the auction.

KC Concepcion, who has always been active in non-profits, is helping the UN World Food Program, while her mother, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta pledged to give P10 million.

Queen of All Media Kris Aquino donated P400,000 for those affected in Ormoc province.  Aside from her cash donation, she also revealed that one of her sponsors would be donating 300 cases of canned goods.

Other star who are making use of their time and talents to raise funds include Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Zanjoe Marudo, Rayver Cruz and Jhong Hilario.

Let’s us pray for all the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and do our share to help.
