Former school board president and prosecutor adds support to Goldsmith’s growing coalition in California’s 24th Senate District
TORRANCE, CA – Brian Goldsmith announced today that Torrance City Councilmember Betty Lieu has endorsed his campaign for California’s 24th Senate District, adding the support of a respected South Bay leader with a strong record of service in public education, public safety, and local government.
Lieu, a former president of the Torrance Unified School District Board of Education and former California Deputy Attorney General and felony prosecutor, has dedicated her career to serving families and strengthening her community. Her endorsement builds on Goldsmith’s support among local elected officials, community leaders, and organizations across the district.
“Families in Torrance and throughout the South Bay need a State Senator who listens, understands their concerns, and will do the work to deliver results,” said Lieu. “Brian Goldsmith will be a strong partner in Sacramento on the issues that matter most to our communities—excellent public schools, safe neighborhoods, and making California more affordable. I am proud to endorse him.”
Goldsmith has made lowering the cost of living, improving public safety, supporting small businesses, and preparing students for a changing economy central priorities of his campaign. He has also emphasized the importance of working directly with local leaders to address the needs of the district’s diverse communities.
“Betty has earned the trust of Torrance families through years of service to her community and a deep commitment to our children,” said Goldsmith. “As a parent, I share her belief that every child deserves a great education and every family deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood. I’m honored to have her support and look forward to working with her to deliver for Torrance and the South Bay.”
Lieu joins a broad coalition supporting Goldsmith that includes former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, state and local elected officials, labor organizations, public safety groups, and community leaders.
Goldsmith is running to succeed Senator Ben Allen, who will leave office at the end of his final term in December 2026. Senate District 24 encompasses communities across the South Bay, the Westside, and the Santa Monica Mountains.
