Couple describe gradual reconciliation, shared parenting responsibilities and future plans
MANILA — Actress Katrina Halili and singer Kris Lawrence say their renewed relationship developed from a friendship they rebuilt while working more closely together to raise their daughter, Katie.
The couple discussed their reconciliation at a product endorsement event in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Halili said Lawrence’s increased involvement in family responsibilities helped her become open to resuming their relationship.
She said having his help in dealing with household concerns and matters involving Katie had made daily life easier. Lawrence said both had grown more mature since their earlier relationship and were making more deliberate choices.
Lawrence traced the rebuilding of their friendship to January. He said they first improved their relationship as co-parents, allowing their connection to develop without immediately pursuing a romance.
In April, Lawrence said on GMA’s Fast Talk with Boy Abunda that they were not romantically involved. By June, he had begun courting Halili again.
They announced their reunion on Sept. 27 in a video posted on Halili’s YouTube channel. Their daughter identified Sept. 13 as the date they had officially resumed their relationship.
The actress and singer were together for about five years before separating more than a decade ago. Katie was born in 2012.
At the Oct. 7 event, Halili said the couple were saving for their daughter’s future. She also said they had purchased two parcels of land together.
Their professional schedules have overlapped as well. Lawrence appeared in the Oct. 8 episode of GMA’s afternoon drama Kamao as David Baltazar, a character who expresses romantic interest in Nadia, played by Halili.
Asked whether they were engaged, Lawrence said no. He said he had a vision for their future but would not disclose specific plans.
