Singer Sofronio Vasquez has joined the Young Voices of the Philippines for “Seas Unbroken,” a new composition inspired by Southeast Asian unity and created in support of the Philippines’ 2026 chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Vasquez and the children’s choir performed the song aboard the Wish 107.5 Bus, bringing together the Filipino singer who won Season 26 of NBC’s “The Voice” and a young ensemble known for performing Philippine choral music at home and abroad.
Written by Manila-based composer Von de Guzman, “Seas Unbroken” uses the waters and islands of Southeast Asia as its central imagery, reflecting the geographic connections among ASEAN countries.
The collaboration comes during the Philippines’ year as ASEAN chair under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.” The country assumed the rotating chairmanship on Jan. 1, succeeding Malaysia.
The Philippine chairship has organized its agenda around three priorities: peace and security, economic prosperity and greater participation and empowerment of people across the region. The year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, the regional accord signed in 1976 that established principles governing peaceful relations among its contracting parties.
Young Voices of the Philippines, formally launched in 2020, is one of the scholar choirs of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines. The ensemble is conducted by Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan, with composer and arranger Jude B. Roldan serving as artistic director. Its program provides young singers from different backgrounds with choral training and opportunities to perform Filipino repertoire.
Vasquez’s participation adds another international project to a career that expanded significantly after his December 2024 victory on “The Voice,” where he competed on Michael Bublé’s team. He became the competition’s first Filipino winner and its first male Asian champion.
His recording career has continued alongside appearances in the Philippines and the United States. In July, he released a self-titled five-track EP under exclusive license to Universal Music Group Philippines. He has also returned to Philippine television as a judge on the 10th season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”
“Seas Unbroken” places that growing international profile alongside a Filipino children’s choir in a project tied to a year in which the Philippines is leading ASEAN’s regional meetings and initiatives.
