GLENDALE, Calif. — The Filipino American Business Association of Glendale and Greater Los Angeles County will celebrate its 36th founding anniversary and Filipino American History Month with a community gathering Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Glendale Adult Recreation Center.

The free event, scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. at 201 E. Colorado St., will combine recognition of local first responders, tributes to Filipino American senior community members and education grant awards for students.

FABAG-GLAC said it will honor Glendale Police Chief Robert William and Fire Chief Jeffrey Brooks, along with members of their respective departments, in recognition of their service to the community.

William was appointed Glendale’s 21st police chief in June after serving as interim chief and previously as deputy chief. Brooks serves as chief of the Glendale Fire Department.

The organization will also recognize two Filipino American senior “legends.” Mary “Nene” Maceda will be honored for her community service and involvement in the arts and dancing, while architect Serge Palomo will be recognized for his accomplishments as a senior masters athlete competing in events including shot put, javelin, discus and the 100-meter race, according to event organizers.

As part of the celebration, FABAG-GLAC will present its Gift of Education Grant Awards to outstanding Filipino American high school seniors from the Glendale Unified School District.

FABAG was organized in September 1990 under the Cultural Exchange Committee of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce as part of an effort to strengthen ties among Glendale’s diverse communities. The organization is marking its 36th year in 2026.

The Oct. 10 Filipino American History Month celebration is listed among FABAG-GLAC’s scheduled community events for 2026.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Families and community members are invited to attend.
