Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia are marking 10 years since they first appeared together on the big screen, highlighting the evolution of one of Philippine entertainment’s most recognizable screen partnerships.

The two first worked together in Vince & Kath & James, an entry in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival. The film introduced the pairing that became widely known as “JoshLia” and led to several projects over the following years.

Their films together included Love You to the Stars and Back and Unexpectedly Yours in 2017, I Love You, Hater in 2018 and Block Z in 2020.

Their screen partnership also coincided with a highly publicized off-screen relationship that later ended. Both subsequently pursued separate projects before reuniting for the 2024 film Un/Happy for You, directed by Petersen Vargas. Star Cinema said the film surpassed P200 million in Philippine ticket sales during its second week in theaters.

A decade after their first collaboration, Barretto and Garcia are working together again in Always Yours, Never Mine, directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana.

At a Sept. 18 media conference, the actors reflected on the years they have worked together and on how their careers have developed since their first film.

Both have since established individual careers in film and television, giving their latest collaboration added significance for audiences who have followed their partnership from its early years.

Always Yours, Never Mine opens in the Philippines on Sept. 30, with overseas screenings scheduled to follow.
