Filipino-American doubles specialist and Australian partner draw top-seeded Siniakova-Townsend next
NEW YORK — Desirae Krawczyk and Australian partner Storm Hunter advanced to the Round of 16 of the US Open women’s doubles tournament Saturday, keeping their run alive at the season’s final Grand Slam.
The 13th-seeded pair defeated Belgium’s Magali Kempen and Alexandra Panova 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the second round at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Hunter and Krawczyk had opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Americans DJ Bennett and Ava Esposito.
Their next match brings the toughest seeding challenge in the draw.
Hunter and Krawczyk will face top seeds Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and American Taylor Townsend in the third round, with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.
Siniakova and Townsend enter the matchup as the reigning Roland Garros champions and 2025 US Open finalists. They have also won titles together this season at Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid.
For Krawczyk, 32, the latest run adds to a career established largely in doubles. The California-born American, whose mother is Filipino and father is Polish, has won 13 WTA doubles titles and reached a career-high No. 7 in the doubles rankings.
Her most recent tour title came in Charleston in April, where she partnered with Caty McNally.
Krawczyk is also a four-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion. She won Roland Garros and the US Open with Britain’s Joe Salisbury in 2021 and captured Wimbledon with Neal Skupski in 2021 and 2022.
Her best result in US Open women’s doubles remains a semifinal appearance in 2021.
