Former MYX VJ also receives Best Thesis honor

Singer, actress and former television host Nikki Gil-Albert has earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the SoFA Design Institute, graduating with Highest Distinction and receiving the school’s Best Thesis award.

Gil began pursuing the degree in 2016, returning to college several years after earning an English Literature degree from Ateneo de Manila University in 2009. She completed the program while raising two children with her husband, BJ Albert, and through disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her thesis examined the design of ADHD-appropriate classrooms in Philippine learning environments, applying Attention Restoration Theory to learning spaces. She successfully defended the project in July before receiving the Best Thesis honor at graduation.

Gil credited her family, classmates, professors and SoFA staff for helping her complete the decade-long academic journey. Her husband and their children, Finn and Maddie, attended the ceremony.

SoFA says its Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program complies with Commission on Higher Education requirements and prepares graduates to take the Professional Regulation Commission licensure examination for interior designers. Gil has not publicly announced taking or passing that examination, so her credential is properly described as an interior design degree rather than a professional license.

Before stepping back from regular entertainment work, Gil built a career in music, television, acting and theater, including years as a MYX VJ and appearances on ABS-CBN’s “ASAP.” Her graduation marks the completion of a long-term academic goal pursued alongside family life and a major career transition over nearly a full decade.
