POUND-for-pound champ Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao’s victory on Saturday has not only afforded him his eighth title in eight weight divisions – he has earned his rightful place among the ranks of the world’s greatest fighters.
That, and a still unconfirmed 1.4 million in Pay-per-view buys on HBO should be more than enough to crow about.
And well-earned it was, considering that he considers his bout with Margarito as the hardest fight he has had so far. Battered and bruised, Pacman needed assistance as he descended the podium steps after a post-fight news conference. He was nursing a fattened lip and a swollen left hand as well.
But his ardor for his role as a public servant has not waned – Pacquiao is eager to get back into the political arena as Sarangani’s congressional representative, to fulfill his obligations to his townsfolk.
According to reports, Freddie Roach describes how Pacquiao takes his role as congressman very seriously, saying that “he’s a different person there. He’s very proper. Very professional. Very proud. He’s not the fun person who plays jokes on people.”  Pacquiao even skipped training to meet with Pres. Aquino and even lamented missing Congress on several occasions during his sparring sessions.
The whole experience of being Manny Pacquiao, world-renowned boxing champ has transformed the pound-for-pound king into, not only as a champion in the boxing ring, but as a champion for humanity – the fighter with a big heart.
Pacquiao even took time to pay Antonio Margarito a visit in his locker room after the fight, just to see how he was doing and assured the Mexican fighter that he would recover from his injuries.
So what’s next for Manny Pacquiao?
After the fight, Pacquiao said that he’s still willing to fight anyone , but Top Rank’s Bob Arum said that it was not a question of when, but with whom.
For a lot of people, one most important, career-defining fight remains – the much-awaited bout with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. But if it will materialize remains the most sought-after bit of news.
But whether the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will push through or not, Pacquiao will continue doing what he does best – fighting for a good cause. (AJPress)
