The actors say their agreement reflects a personal conviction about projects that could require romantic or intimate scenes.

MANILA — Actors Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa said they share a preference against accepting acting assignments opposite former romantic partners, describing the arrangement as a mutual decision within their marriage.

Sotto discussed the couple’s position in a recent Season 4 episode of the family discussion program House of D. He said they “both agree” and described the arrangement as their “own personal conviction.”

He said their concern involved romantic or intimate scenes that an acting project might require. Sotto cited kissing and bedroom scenes as examples of situations that could make either spouse uncomfortable when the other performer was a former romantic partner.

His remarks presented the position as reciprocal. He did not describe it as a restriction applying only to Hermosa, but as an understanding governing the professional choices of both spouses.

The comments differ in emphasis from Hermosa’s public remarks in April 2024, when she said she was open to considering another project with former boyfriend and longtime screen partner Jericho Rosales.

At the time, Hermosa said any decision would depend on the project, the scenes involved and whether the work would justify the time and effort required away from her family. She also said Sotto had no objection to the possibility and would support her professional choice.

The couple’s recent discussion did not establish when they reached their current agreement or whether it replaced Hermosa’s earlier case-by-case position.

Sotto has previously rejected suggestions that he prevented Hermosa from pursuing acting work, saying he did not prohibit her from accepting projects after their marriage.

Sotto and Hermosa married in 2011. They are parents to six children, including their youngest son, Isaiah Timothy, who was born in September 2024.
