CA COVID 19 rent relief program still accepting applications until March 31

THE State of California COVID-19 Rent Relief program is accepting new applications and additional funds requests until March 31. Eligible renters and landlords impacted by COVID-19 may apply for financial assistance to cover rent or utilities unpaid between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2022 as a result of financial hardships during COVID-19.

As of March 15, almost $2.37 billion have been awarded to 205,782 households through the state program.  In San Francisco alone, 9,230 households (from 18,463 completed applications) have received assistance totaling almost $106 million.

Tenants and landlords are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Ensure all required documents are included to avoid processing delays. Approved households may receive up to 18 months of assistance for unpaid rent payments owed and 12 months for past due utilities incurred within the specified assistance period.

An active and complete application may further assist households in avoiding eviction. Under state law AB-832, through March 31, 2022, tenants with pending applications to the State of California COVID-19 Rent Relief program are protected from eviction regardless of the time it takes to fully process.
