DESCRIPTION:GLENDALE\, California – Glendale Water & Power is excited to sponsor an Electric Car Guest Drive event on Saturday\, December 7 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Glendale City Hall parking lot. Participants will have the opportunity to test drive a wide variety of electric vehicles (EVs)\, including the Tesla Cybertruck\, Hyundai Ioniq 5\, Ford F-150 Lightning\, Tesla Model Y\, and more\, along with a selection of electric bikes. \nRegistration is required for test drives of electric vehicles\, which can be done on the event website at gwp.evnavigator.com/evdrive.html. No reservations are needed for test rides of electric bikes. \nThis family-friendly event also offers the chance to win an electric bike through a raffle. As visual artist Jomike Tejido puts it\, what better way to capture the essence of this emotion than by translating it into his multicolored abstractions? Given that happiness means something different to everyone\, the artist deemed it the perfect theme for his latest collection of whimsical and expressive compositions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEl Gran Arcoiris de la vida\nThe Great Rainbow of Life\n36 x 60\nAcrylic Gold Leaf and Oil on Canvas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFresh from his exhibit in Madrid\, Spain\, Jomike Tejido titled this exhibition “Arcoiris\,” the Spanish word for rainbow. Having been told that his works exude feelings of joy\, Tejido decided to celebrate the emotional resonance his viewers experienced by fully leaning into the idea of happiness given visual form.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFe más allá del destino (Indigo)\nFaith Beyond Fate (Indigo)\n48 x 24\nAcrylic and Oil on Canvas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis show is inspired by and revolves around the seven colors of this captivating weather phenomenon: Red\, Orange\, Yellow\, Green\, Blue\, Indigo\, and Violet. Rainbows not only serve as vibrant inspiration for a colorful collection of paintings\, but they also symbolize happiness and joy. These uplifting emotions lie at the heart of “Arcoiris” and are central to Tejido’s oeuvre.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAsombro ante el esplendor (Amarillo)\nAwe in Splendor (Yellow)\n48 x 36\nAcrylic and Oil on Canvas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFurther\, Jomike Tejido designed this concept specifically for the expansive exhibition space at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell. The seven distinct sections of the exhibition space made it the perfect setting for his show\, which revolves around the theme of sevens.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVida Vibrante (Morado)\nVibrant Life (Green)\n24 x 24\nAcrylic and Oil on Shaped Canvas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccompanying Tejido’s signature candy-colored abstractions is a collection of sculptural works titled\, “Los Juguetes de los Vanguardias” or Toys of the Avant-garde. Recently launched in Kate Contemporary in Madrid\, Spain\, these works were designed with the intention of becoming sources of happiness. The artist’s figurative sculptures were also inspired by the charming simplicity of wooden toys from the mid-century industrial era\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHappiness in Us\n8.5 x 2.5 in. (Two sets)\nAcrylic on kiln- dried wood and beechwood\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach friendly figure is lovingly and carefully hand-built and painted. The artistic process represents how a hobby\, a pet\, a person\, or even quiet me-time is essential for personal replenishment. Alongside the works in “Arcoiris\,” Tejido’s sculptures bring out a further levity from his abstract paintings. In this newest release\, the toys are manipulable and have three points of articulation at the head and each figure’s two arms. (SIPA) for placement in SIPA’s headquarters at 3200 West Temple Street\, Los Angeles in Historic Filipinotown on Thursday\, November 21\, 2024\, at 7:00 p.m. \nThe Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown\, founded in 2007\, has placed Peace Benches throughout Historic Filipinotown\, including the Filipino Christian Church\, the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles\, the Downtown Los Angeles Medical Center and a local elementary school. \n“The Peace Benches provide an opportunity to promote friendship\, kindness and peace” said Terry Gubatan\, club president.  “Rotarians worldwide seek to create environments where peace can be built and maintained.  Rotary believes that if concerned citizens work together to create peace locally\, lasting change can happen globally.  The Peace Bench is a symbolic instrument of peace:  a safe place to go if you’re feeling lonely\, sad\, need company\, a victim of bullying or violence.  It’s a place for people who need a friend ” \nThe hand-made bench was built by students with disabilities at Banneker-Doyle Career and Transition Center in Willowbrook. \n“During the COVID-19 pandemic\, the Rotary Peace Bench placed at the Downtown Los Angeles Medical Center became a gathering place of respite for stressed health care workers” Gubatan continued. \nThe Rotary Club has selected SIPA as a legacy organization established in 1972 serving Historic Filipinotown and the larger community.  The Peace Bench will be placed at SIPA’s headquarters known as the HiFi Collective which includes its offices and affordable housing. \nAt this gathering\, the Rotary Club will also announce the award of grant funds from the Rotary Foundation to SIPA in support of a collaborative literacy education project to benefit residents of the affordable housing at the HiFi Collective. \nRotary is a global service organization connecting 1.2 million members from more than 200 countries impacting lives at the local and international levels. \nRotary Club of Historic Filipinotown\nPresentation of the Rotary Peace Bench\nto Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) \nGuest Speaker: Lisa Wellik\, Rotary District \n5280 Peace Committee Co-Chair \nThursday\, November 21\, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. \nSIPA Headquarters\, 3200 W. DESCRIPTION:The Flux screening series brings the creative community together to celebrate outstanding short films and music videos from around the globe\, with wildly inventive filmmaker presentations and performances. \nThe 15th season anniversary edition of Flux presents the theatrical world premiere of Evan Forrest Mann’s Opulent Round Edible Object and the visually captivating poem Just Kids by director Jackie Bao. Also featured is Grant Spanier\, who will debut his music video for Dua Saleh’s want—a project for which he provided both creative direction and photography for their album I Think You Should Call Them. In Beetlebugs\, director Sondock and musician Nick Leng contribute a fresh entry to the mysterious detective genre of music videos. For those who attended the February 2024 Flux\, Cassie Marin’s mesmerizing performance left an impact; filmmaker Vanessa Marzaroli was equally captivated\, inspiring her to create the visual for Cassie’s Double Sided Girl. In Sexed & Sexual\, director C.T. Robert explores the experiences of a young queer Black person growing up in Italy\, drawing from the personal journey of London-based Italo-Congolese singer-songwriter Sans Soucis. Inspired by the physically demanding labor of his immigrant farmworker parents\, Miguel Angel Caballero crafted the sci-fi short The Ballad of Tita and the Machines\, in which an elderly fieldworker\, Tita (named for the director’s mother)\, hires an AI humanoid to take her place in the fields. \nThe eclectic film lineup spans comedy\, dance\, drama\, animation\, and features new music videos for Dongurizu\, Maria Chiara Argirò\, Macgray\, A$AP Rocky\, and more. \nSpecial in-person guests include Atlas Acopian\, Jackie Bao\, Miguel Angel Caballero\, Ewan Creed\, Evan Forrest Mann\, Vanessa Marzaroli\, Sondock\, Grant Spanier\, C.T. Robert\, and Griffin Wenzler. A courtyard after-party follows with a DJ set by Eno. \n  \nATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?\nTicketing: Admission is free.
