The City Council of Santa Clarita proclaimed October as Filipino-American History Month during a ceremony on Tuesday, October 10. Emie Carrillo (middle, left), president of the Fil-Am Association of Santa Clarita Valley (SCV), along with several board members received the proclamation from Mayor Cameron Smyth (center) and city councilmembers.
The Fil-Am Association of SCV, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has served the Fil-Am community in the city for over three decades, and hosts various social, cultural and civic activities throughout the year. The organization will host “Mutya ng Lahi” (Jewel of Ancestry), a celebration of Fil-Am History Month on Saturday, October 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Centre (20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA 91351).
