More than half of Filipinos pick their career over love life, according to a Social Weather Station (SWS) survey released Tuesday, February 13.
In a poll conducted from December 8 to 16, 2017, respondents were asked the following question: “In case you have to choose between your love life and career, which of these two would you choose?”
Based on the result, 59 percent or three of five adult Filipinos said they would prioritize their career over having a love live.
Only 41 percent said they prefer love life over career.
According to the polling firm, the preference for career over love life was high among singles, regardless of sex.
Among single men who chose career over love life, 82 percent of them are widowed, separated, or divorced; and 77 percent of them never married.
“This is higher compared to 53 percent among those with live-in partners and 50 percent among marrieds who would choose the same,” SWS said.
Meanwhile, among single women, 80 percent of those who are widowed, separated, divorced, or divorce; and 83 percent of those who never married, also chose career over love life.
Sixty-five percent among those with live-in partners, and 49 percent among marrieds preferred the same.
The SWS survey was conducted among 1,200 respondents nationwide using face-to-face interviews. It has a margin of error of ±3 percent nationwide, ±4 percent for Luzon, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
