MANILA, July 17 (PNA) — To make the public easier to report crimes to police authorities, PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima announced on Wednesday that the PNP will use social media.
Purisima said he is looking at using Twitter as venue for easier reporting of crime incidents, adding that he has tasked the Directorate for Police Community Relations to work on the idea.
Purisima said, in response to a data report which claimed that a significant number of crime victims do not report their ordeal to police authorities for several reasons, of which includes inaccessibility.
“For example, when somebody is robbed, he/she doesn’t report it anymore because the police station is too far. But these reports are needed by us,” he explained.
The figures that will be derived from these reports, the PNP Chief said, can be used as reference for the number of police officers a particular area needs.
He said attention will be directed to other areas if the records would be incomplete.
