Nissan Motor Co. is recalling approximately 768,000 SUVs globally for two different issues.
A total of 215,789 Pathfinders from the 2013 and 2014 model years, as well as 2013 Infiniti JX35 SUVs, are being recalled for a problem with a secondary hood latch, Nissan and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said. Of these vehicles, 170,665 are registered in the United States, Reuters reported.
This issue was most widely noticed among rental vehicles, as drivers would sometimes accidentally dislodge the secondary hood latch, which is meant to catch the hood in the event the primary hood latch becomes detached.
About 552,135 Rogues from the 2008 to 2013 model years are also being recalled because moisture could enter through the floor of the driver’s side, which could cause an electrical short to wiring that could result in a fire, Nissan and the NHTSA said. Of the affected Rogues, 468,815 are registered in the United States, according to a Reuters report.
There have been no crashes or injuries reported from either of the problems, a Nissan spokesman said Wednesday, Jan. 28, although there were some damages to vehicles with the problematic latches.
The recall also applies to 52,312 Rogue crossovers and 15,972 Pathfinder and JX35 SUVs in Canada. The SUVs are being recalled in 30 additional countries, according to Nissan; additionally, the Rogue will be recalled in three other countries.
