Vigan City hugged the limelight yesterday as the Miss Universe competition held the second of its preliminary events — the Terno Fashion Show in the UNESCO-inscribed world heritage site.
Twenty (20) candidates participated in the Vigan leg where they paraded along Calle Crisologo and ended on stage for the main show at the city plaza, presenting modern designs of the quintessential terno. The locally-inspired creations were spectacular, world-class and dignified as worn by the beautiful contestants.
The city government proudly thanked both models and designers who were also rewarded with plaques of appreciation. The home-grown talents represented the Fashion Designers Council of the Philippines, Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines and the Ilocos Sur Designers Guild.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Katherine Chloe de Castro, in her opening remarks, thanked all those who contributed their support, first and foremost, former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson and his LCS Group. She added, “To those who believed and who continue to believe that this endeavor will bring us enduring, intangible gains, thank you. More importantly, we wish to prove that our participation in this pageant, or in any beauty pageant for that matter, should be to forward our advocacies and woman empowerment goals.”
The participants include the representatives of Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Guatemala, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Thailand, Uruguay, USA, British Virgin Islands, Venezuela and Vietnam.
