CERRITOS – On Monday, July 8, The Cerritos City Council appointed Tatiana Yokoyama to the city’s five-member planning commission.

The city council unanimously voted in favor to appoint Yokoyama, a long-time Cerritos resident, to a two-year term on the commission.

Mayor Pro-Tem Mark Pulido nominated Yokoyama to the position.

“She represents the next generation of homegrown leadership to come back and give back to the community she dearly loves,” said Pulido.

“Ms. Yokoyama will bring her business and legal background as well as her years of involvement in the local community to the Planning Commission.”

“I think she will do an outstanding job and inspire others from the younger generation of Cerritos residents to be more civically involved,” Pulido added.

As a member of the planning commission, Yokoyama will be among the five people on the board responsible for advising the city council on policies governing the growth and development of the City of Cerritos.

The commission reviews all zoning applications and plans for development, conducts public hearings, and makes final determinations on these in the form of recommendations to the city council, according to the Cerritos government website.

Yokoyama joins Nick Kim, Becky Lingad, Naresh Solanki, and Chuong Vo as other members of the planning commission.

Yokoyama is a long-time Cerritos resident. She’s a graduate of Whitney High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree at UC Riverside, Pulido said during the city council meeting.

Yokoyama is currently a law student at the Western State College of Law in Fullerton and a recipient of the school’s merit scholarship.

She is currently the Student Bar Association President and serves as a certified law clerk at the Children’s Law Center of Los Angeles.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Orange County Asian American Bar Association, according to her bio.
