‘The Voice of the Philippines Season 2’ winner is Jason Dy

A 24-year-old crooner from Butuan City who channels his experiences from belonging to a broken family to his performances was declared the grand winner of this season’s The Voice of the Philippines last Sunday, March 1.

Jason Dy, who was mentored by Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo, emerged as the winner after battling with three other finalists for the title.  Alisah Bonaobra of Team Apl was second, while Leah Patricia of Team Lea and Rence Rapanot of Team Bamboo finished third and fourth, respectively.

During the grand finals, Jason sang Angels Brought Me Here and If I Ain’t Got You duet with his coach, Sarah.

During the first round of the show’s two-day finale, Jason sang two songsz— Wrecking Ball, with international singer Charice; and for his individual song choice, he sang With You.

He sang Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin in his final showdown again Alisah.  Jason won 52.94 percent of the public’s votes.

Jason was already a favorite when he auditioned.  He made three coaches turn their chairs after he performed Sam Smith’s Stay With Me during the blind auditions.

Sobra kaming bilib na bilib sa ‘yo, kasi hindi mo kinailangang lakasan ‘yung boses mo, o bumirit para sa amin.  ‘Yung strength mo, para sa akin, is ‘yung falsetto mo, ang linis linis, na ang sarap sarap sa puso naming pakinggan,” Sarah said after his audition.

Before joining The Voice, Jason was a bar singer in Singapore.  He also worked as a demo singer and as a “haranista,” or a singer who offers serenading services.

One of the most watched and most promising young actresses today is Kapamilya teen star Liza Soberano.  Aside from her successful primetime series Forevermore with actor Enrique Gil, she is now doing a movie with him, The Bet.

The 17-year-old actress is Hope Elizabeth Hanley Soberano in real life.  She was born in Santa Clara, California to a Filipino father, John Castillo Soberano, and an American mother, Jacqulyn Elizabeth Hanley.  It was her grandparents here in the US who raised her when her parents separated.

Liza was discovered by a talent scout in 2012 and introduced her to talent manager Ogie Diaz.   When she came to Manila, she initially did modeling stints for print and TV because she couldn’t speak fluent Filipino.  With the encouragement of her manager, she finally learned the language after three years.

In 2013, Liza was launched part of the new Star Magic talents which included Julia Barretto, Jane Oineza and Janella Salvador.  After doing a string of smaller roles, she finally had her first leading role in Forevermore and is now tagged as “The Leading Lady to Watch For.”
