Rainy season collection

Each season, the fashion collections released by certain brand apparels greatly help people decide on what goes comfortably with the weather. Not in a tropical country like the Philippines, though.

The Philippines has two sets of climate: rainy and dry; and “rainy” does not totally mean “cold.” Therefore, Vogue’s Winter Collection cannot completely set a fashion standard for the Filipinos in this time of the year. Furs, leathers, and layered outfits might give protection, but will they give comfort afterwards?

The first to sacrifice either fashion or comfort is you—a commuter, more so if you rely on public transport on your way to the school or office.

Here are some items that you might want to include in your personal “Rainy Season Collection” to keep you geared while comfortably rocking that #OOTD (Outfit of the Day):

1. Umbrella

Do not be deceived by the sun shining brightly during the rainy season. You do not want to get soaked by a sudden downpour while commuting, so bring that umbrella.

Invest in a durable umbrella that will not turn upside-down when strong winds blow – because when it does, you are wet and your outfit, spoiled.

2. Raincoats and/or waterproof jacket

Layer your outfit with a raincoat or a waterproof jacket. A cover-up that absorbs water will just get wet and may not help your inner clothes remain dry. On another light, thick fabrics may just leave you sticky and sweaty as humidity plays its role most of the time.

3. Short bottoms

It is advisable to wear short bottoms like shorts or skirts when walking under the rain. Rains driven by strong winds that go from east to west, north to south will inevitably dampen your legs. Drying your skin once you get to your destination is easier and more comfortable than going through the day wearing wet long pants which gives a sticky feeling.

4. Rain boots

Most Filipinos dress down when it rains. They do fine with wearing slippers or sandals. Good thing, fashionable rain boots come to the rescue. Aside from keeping your feet dry, they are playful and fun to look at.

With these, forget giving up either comfort or your #OOTD. Develop your “Rainy Season Collection”—your all-year round (because rain visits even on dry season) fashionable items!
