Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria Tribal Council Chairman Greg Sarris recently led officials in touring invited media for a preview of its resort expansion which is slated to open this November.
At an estimated cost of $175 million, Graton’s expansion includes a hotel, spa, meeting/convention space and a pool area which is certain to thrill Graton Resort & Casino visitors to no end.
What visitors will first notice is that the architecture and design of Graton’s hotel/spa/convention space complements the beautiful colors and landscape of the area. Paying homage to the natural flora found in Sonoma county, the hotel exudes hues synonymous with the countryside where it is a part of. And this is, according to Sarris, by design.
“People mention that this is like a Vegas-type hotel as we’ve got all the amenities,” says Tribal Council Chairman Greg Sarris, “but the design, the stone work, the colors are meant to complement the wine country, the landscape, the beauty of the hills and the trees around here so that we don’t have neon and flashing signs. Instead, we have a building that beautifully complements the landscape that surrounds us.”
The six-storey hotel features 184 standard guestrooms that feature a modern look. It also carries 16 luxurious suites with a variety of styles: guests can choose from a two-bay, four-bay or five-bay suite, all of which feature its own set of unique attributes.
The resort expansion carries with it a spa, exercise room/gym, pool area and a meeting/event/convention space. That last one – the convention/meeting space – according to Sarris, fulfills a need in the area as there is a lack of a big space where corporate events or large gatherings can be accommodated.
“One of the reasons we built this is that there is no other place in the North Bay that can actually seat this many people with all of the amenities right here, “Greg states. “So what a beautiful opportunity to be in the wine country to have a convention… many people want to come to the wine country, but there’s no place where you can have a convention and where you can sit in a ballroom eighteen hundred people for dinner, and go swimming, and go to a spa and take wine tours, all at the same time. What a perfect place to accommodate conventions where there was not a place before.”
Graton guests who take advantage of the spa and pool areas may be happy to know that they are in for a great experience. The spa includes a steam room, dry sauna, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a fully-equipped retail area and a full-service salon. The pool area, meanwhile, features private cabanas and dozens of tan chaises, beds and loungers.
What this all means, according to Tribal Council Chair Greg Sarris, is that Graton customers will have a complete experience when they visit.
“For the Graton customers, they will finally have a full destination point experience. Where before our Graton customers could gamble and get great food but they had to either go back to San Francisco or to Rohnert Park in order to sleep, now they can park their car, they can have a wonderful hotel room, they can stay a weekend or a week or whatever they like,” he says with excitement. “They have four full-service restaurants to choose from, they can gamble, they can have entertainment, they have the pool, a full-service 10,000-square-feet spa where they can have their hair done or get a massage. During the day if they want they can take a wine tour to a number of wineries in the area. Now, you can come and stay – you don’t have to drive back – and really feel you can get away and relax.”
Sarris, who is very proud that he has Filipino heritage (his grandfather was a manong, he says), wants the Filipino community visit Graton and to schedule their events like reunions, gatherings, corporate events and parties at Graton.
“I really want the Filipino people to feel particularly welcome here at Graton Resort & Casino,” he says, and jokingly adds, “My only request is that when you have parties here is please invite me.”
