Ed & Olyn Bautista: Life on the silvery route

Feeling the same intensity of emotional affection for each other after a score and five years of blissful togetherness, medical couple Eduardo and Olyn Bautista had triumphantly survived all possible impediments that crossed their path and successfully weathered the storm along the way. The initial spark and electrifying excitement remained undiminished despite the passing of time while simultaneously defying all odds…relentlessly enduring to ignite every dying ember each time the flickering glow turns faint and dim.
Ed and Olyn’s (almost) perfect marital union is strongly guided by the wise quotation from the great Lebanese artist, poet, and writer-prophet Khalil Gibran about marriage: “Let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you…love one another but make not a bond of love, let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from just one cup…give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous but let each one of you be alone…for even the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts but not into each other’s keeping for only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together: for the pillars of the temple stand apart…and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”
The strength of the union of two completely different individuals is primarily based on the total submission of both with a firm commitment that is justifiably founded on each other’s mutual and faith.
Twenty five years ago, New York-born Eduardo Bautista serendipitously met a Manileña lass named Jocelyn Blanco while both were in Medical school at the University of Santo Tomas. Romance instantly reigned supreme that the world solely revolved around them.
They were separated for eighteen months when Ed went back to the US that the abysmal solitude rewardingly found its consolation when Olyn followed on November 1989 and to finally seal their relationship, they exchanged “I Dos” a month later.
Ed and Olyn had Pediatric residency training at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center and later the former continued school for further studies to pursue a Neonatology degree, a sub-specialty of Pediatrics consisting of the medical care of newborn infants especially the ill or prematurely born.
Ed is currently employed at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center as a full attending Neonatologist following his fellowship at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Incidentally, Olyn worked for Bethany Pediatrics for three years after her residency before she embarked on her own Pediatric practice in Colts Neck.
The couple was blessed with two great-looking kids: Michael, 21, is a senior in Political Science…paving way to his dream of becoming a practicing lawyer; and Jessica, a senior at Donovan Catholic School and plans to pursue a career in Orthodontics.
Last Saturday, December 6, 2014, the couple grandiosely celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at the posh Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood, New Jersey to a full-to-the-rafter attending guests. Lavish and profligate, the reception easily give away the grandiose and ostentatious display of the class and cultured.
Ed and Oly’s ever supportive friends and colleagues were more than glad to participate in the well-conceptualized and creatively choreographed Viennese waltz that served as the evening’s most anticipated highlight.
Ladies, elegantly donned in black billowy cocktail gowns with old rose silk organza twisted sash for accent, gracefully sashayed across the floor, while their husband-partners, smartly dashing in midnight black tuxedo with pale pink inner dress shirt and silver bow ties, cleverly waltzed their wives smoothly like gallant knights.
Composing the exclusive assemblage of waltz dancers were:  Dr. Jerry and Vangie Mabagos, Mr. Ismael and Dr. Janet Tumaliuan, Drs. Nito and May Madattu, DR. Victor and Sandra Bacani, Mr. Miguel and Dr. Pinky Deperio, and Dr. Ross and Eleonor Medenilla.
For Ed and Olyn their love for each other does not only consist of gazing at each other but in having the same focus at the same direction which makes their conjugal set-up even stronger after having fallen in love countless times with the same person.
