99 Ranch Market Provides Top Chef Masters with Top Shelf Ingredients

99 Ranch Market made an appearance on season 5 of Top Chef Masters, episode 2, Asian Night Market, which aired July 31, 2013. The challenge was to recreate an American classic dish with an Asian spin with the help of their Sous chef at a busy 626 Night Market in Los Angeles. The chefs took to 99 Ranch Market to find fresh ingredients such as, live lobster and shrimp, fresh vegetables, tender meats, and a variety of sauces including Yuzu and soy sauce. The ingredients were then brought to a popular Asian night market in Los Angeles, decorated with red lanterns, stunning lights and red and black booths. Here the chefs and their sous chefs battled it out to prepare their dishes for more than 200 guests, and more importantly, the judges. The winner of last night’s Elimination Challenge was Chef Sang Yoon, the only Asian chef featured on the show, with his delicious fried shrimp head and poached tail with chili garlic aioli and Burmese cabbage slaw. Winning the challenge earned Chef Sang Yoon’s charity, Worldwide Orphans Foundation, $10,000.
The chefs are battling to win Top Chef Masters’ grand prize, $100,000 to the charity of their choice, and to be crowned winner of Top Chef Masters.
99 Ranch Market is very excited and proud of Chef Sang Yoon, being the only Asian chef contestant on the show. Chef Sang Yoon is the executive chef and proprietor of Father’s Office gastropub, which has locations in Santa Monica and Los Angeles, California and Lukshon, an Asian themed fine dining restaurant which opened in 2011. Chef Sang Yoon is also known for the creation of the Office Burger, which Esquire Magazine named one of the best burgers in the world.
