Award-winning choir’s much awaited concert will be in Northridge, CA
The Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall at the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) in the California State University Northridge (CSUN) Campus will reverberate with the voices that have conquered audiences all over the world.
The U.P Madrigal Singers (aka Philippine Madrigal Singers, aka the Madz), only Philippine Choir to have won the prestigious European Grand Prix for Choral Singing, and the only choir in the world to have won twice, is embarking on a US Tour prior to competing for an unprecedented third Grand Prix in Tolosa, Spain.
In 2016, the Madz bested choirs from France, Slovenia, Iceland, Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria and the Ukraine in the Arezzo, Italy competition. Recently, the Madz toured Taiwan and other cities in Asia, prior to spearheading the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last July 2017.
Founder Andrea Veneracion (National Artist for Music) led the choir at the first EGP win in 1997. Current choirmaster Mark Anthony Carpio took the helm in 2001 and continued the Madz legacy of choral excellence and ushered the choir’s way to its 2nd EGP in 2007. Carpio is a respected faculty member of the University of the Philippines and a highly-recognized choral adjudicator for his achievements.
Touted as the group whose supreme artistry allows them to sing anything and everything with equal aplomb, audiences should expect the unexpected and revel in the sound the Madz is famous for. Repertoire consists of competition pieces, madrigals, original compositions and popular English and OPM songs especially arranged for choral singing.
