Randy Santiago mourns death of 24-year-old son

Singer-actor Randy Santiago and wife Marilou Coronel are grieving over the passing of their son Ryan Leonardo Santiago, who died on Sunday, Aug. 13.

After three years of battling with a strange form of brain disease and multiple sclerosis, Ryan, second son of Randy, died at the age of 24.

“Baka may purpose [ang Panginoon] kung bakit he had to leave and he had to go at an early age, dahil syempre hindi naman siguro patagalin pa ‘yung sickness niya. (Maybe God has a purpose why he had to go at an early age because of course [God] would’ve never prolong his sickness),” Randy said in an interview with Pep.ph.

Randy said it was hard and painful for him as a parent but he had to accept his son’s early passing, and instead view it as a silver lining.

“Sabi rin ni Marilou, my wife, ‘Baka mas mahirap siguro kung mauna tayong mamatay sa kanya at walang mag-alaga sa kanya.’ Mas mahirap para sa amin ‘yun. So minsan, kahit masakit sa amin, mas mabuting naalagaan namin siya hanggang sa huling hantungan.  (My wife, Marilou, said it’s even harder [to accept] for us parents if we had died first and no one is taking care of him, so even if it hurts, it’s better that we were able to take care of him until his last days),” he added.

Meanwhile, Randy’s brother, Reily Santiago also expressed his grief on social media through the Facebook page called #HealRyanSantiago, which was created in support of the young man back in 2015 when he was hospitalized due to “fungal virus.”

“Our family and friends will terribly miss his infectious smile, funny jokes and his great fashion style,” Reily said describing his nephew’s death as peaceful and painless.

Other celebrities have also showed support and offered prayers to the Santiago family.

“My heart broke over the passing of Randy and Marilou Santiago’s son Ryan. Gone way too soon. Couldn’t stop crying when Gary & I prayed,” Angeli Valenciano posted.

Ryan was sustained by his parents and two brothers Raiko and Raphael.

The urn viewing was held in La Salle Greenhills Chapel from August 14-16 2017.
